Since 1979, the Akwesasne Freedom School has offered a full Mohawk immersion curriculum, dedicated to the preservation of language, culture and identity. The independent elementary school is funded primarily through contributions by community government organizations, foundations, and private individuals.
Its annual fundraiser features live entertainment, a hearty meal, and vendors throughout the weekend. For nearly 30 years, the exciting quilt auction has drawn visitors from all over the US and Canada eager to own a magnificent piece of art made by Akwesasne parents, students, local societies, and others.
