The weekend begins on Friday, July 17 at our Best of Show Juried Competition awards presentation, where inspired artists are recognized and celebrated. More than 100 spectacular works of Native art undergo evaluation to determine winners across 12 categories and the prestigious Best of Show award.
Young Indigenous artists grades 7–12 will have their work professionally judged as they compete for ribbons and prize money. All youth artwork entered is displayed and available for sale at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino during the Best in Show awards reception.
Watch as Native artists bring traditional and contemporary art practices to life, and try a variety of hands-on activities during the Art Market on Saturday, July 18 at Generations Park. Admission is free.
Satisfy your cravings or try something new! Grab your favorite sweet, salty, or savory bites from a variety of local food vendors on-site during the Art Market on Saturday, July 18 at Generations Park.
The Akwesasne Art Market artists directory will be posted in May.
The Akwesasne Art Market’s cultural demonstrations schedule is coming soon.
Personal photography and video are welcome and encouraged! Media passes are required for editorial coverage (news, magazines, broadcast, and documentary projects).
Absolutely! Non-Natives can wear items such as beaded earrings, mocassins, and other apparel, particularly when they are purchased directly from Indigenous artists and makers. Wearing these items shows respect for culture, tradition, and craftsmanship. This is considered cultural appreciation, as opposed to appropriation. As long as the items are worn respectfully and not used as a “costume,” then go for it!
There are designated ADA parking spots at Generations Park and Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. The casino also has valet parking.
