Start your day at the Akwesasne Cultural Center and Museum, where you can learn about the Mohawk creation story and view a historic Wampum belt, a longhouse replica, intricate baskets and men’s feathered hats called Kostowahs.

After the museum tour, head down the road for a traditional lunch with the Rourke family at Atsiakta (By the River) and lacrosse stick making demonstration by Evan Cree. Nearly all of the world’s lacrosse sticks were once made in Akwesasne and here you will learn about the significance of the sport to the Mohawk people.

Following the demonstration, take a short pontoon ride on the St. Lawrence River to the historic St. Regis Mohawk Church, which was established by French Jesuit missionaries in 1752. This charming church conducts services in Mohawk and even has its own Mohawk-language choir.

From the church, head to Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort for a medicinal plant workshop with Canoe Woman Herbs, learning how to make a natural salve.  Enjoy dinner at Maple Steak and Ale at the Resort before turning in for the night.

Start your day off right at Native Harvest Buffet before visiting the workshop of basket artist, Carrie Hill, of Chill Baskets.

After the basket presentation, take a short drive to the Native North American Traveling College where you can explore the art and history of the Mohawk. The multi-use facility includes a museum and art gallery dedicated to promoting and preserving Mohawk language, culture, and history.  Participate in a social, a dancing and drumming performance, and break bread with your hosts over a traditional lunch.
